This custom Patch panel is used for the first 8 Hybrid station circuits of the Panasonic KX-TD ONLY. If you wish to use a Patch Panel on the last 8 hybrid station circuits, you will require the KX-PPA patch assembly.
What makes this Patch Panel so special?
The "KX-TD" series of telephone switching systems use Panasonic's patented "XDP" technology. This means that every station circuit has two components to it (a Digital component and an Analog component). If you connect all four wires (per circuit), to your wall jack, then you will have both components available at the telephone instrument. The XDP component (that's the analog component), will be available on a jack on the back of the KX-T7400 series telephone.
The Octopus Patch panel services ONLY the first 8 stations (Jack Numbers 01-08) of the KX-TD816. Each Patch Panel has 24, Industry Standard RJ45 jacks (just like Ethernet jacks), and can be patched into the building's "in-house" patch panel system using standard 8-Pin Ethernet Patch Cords.
Why are there 24 outlets on the Patch panel if it only supports 8 Stations Jacks?
The first 8 outlets are Jacks 01-08, Analog only.
The next 8 outlets are Jacks 01-08, Digital only.
The last 8 outlets are Jacks 01-08, Analog and Digital
With this approach, you end up with a totally flexible installation. You may now send the "Digital component" of Jack # 03 (for instance), to a Digital telephone on the North end of the building and the "Analog component" on that same Jack # 03 to a modem or other device on the West end of the building.
Or ...
Imagine someone needs an XDP Port for their modem, and plugging into the back of their phone would work perfectly. You may choose to use one of the first 8 Patch Panel outlets to effectively send both Digital AND Analog to that location.
It's a great way to never have to rewire.
