Who are the best candidates for the KX-TDE200?

KX-TDE200 OVERVIEW

Like the KX-TDA100/200, when we talk about the KX-TDE100 or KX-TDE200, it’s usually in the same breath, i.e. KX-TDE100/200.  This is because they are for the most part, the same system but in different size cabinets.  The KX-TDE200 is just like the KX-TDE100 but approximately twice the size.

The KX-TDE100 is Panasonic’s most sophisticated medium size PBX to date.  It combines all of the features of every series and presents them in one compact, upgradeable system.  The KX-TDE100 has a slot for the Central Processing Unit and 6 additional universal slots.  These 6 universal slots are exactly like those in the KX-TDA100.

The KX-TDE200 is approximately twice the size with 1 Central Processing Unit and 11 additional universal slots - just like the KX-TDA200.

Both systems allow for a variety of expansion and option cards to be plugged into them.  The most common types of cards are: (1) Central Office Line (trunk) cards such as POTS, T1, ISDN-PRI and IP Trunk Gateway cards  (2) Extension (Station) cards such as 2-wire Digital Extensions, 4-wire Hybrid Extensions, 2-wire Single Line Telephone (SLT) extensions, VoIP Extensions and Cell Station Interface Cards and (3) Option cards.  Option cards have 3 spots to mount small daughter boards onto. These list of available daughter boards include (a) Door Phone Controller Module (b) Echo Canceller Module (c) DISA/OGM/MSG Module and (d) Sensor Module.  Each Door Controller Module has 4 Door Intercom circuits and 4 Contact Closure circuits built-in.  Echo Canceller modules are used whenever conferences of more than 5 parties are required.  Sensor modules are devices that allow external devices to trigger features or alarms within the PBX such as electric eyes, temperature alarms, etc.

Maximum capacities of the KX-TDE100 and KX-TDE200 differ depending upon how the systems are carded.  Both systems have an absolute maximum capacity of 128 C.O. Lines and 256 extensions, but not all at once.  In other words, they can be configured as "trunk heavy" or "extension heavy."  In a trunk heavy configuration, most of the card slots would be used to reach the maximum allowably trunk limit and therefore not have enough card slots to reach the maximum number of extensions.  An extension heavy configuration would produce the opposite effect.  Most applications never reach their trunk or extension limit.  Instead, they grow with both trunks and stations and usually only reach their card limit.  A KX-TDE200 would obviously allow one to get closer to those maximum capacities than would a KX-TDE100.  Should the card limit be reached on a KX-TDE100, the cards can be removed and installed in a KX-TDE200 instead.  Once the card limit of the KX-TDE200 has been reached, it’s a simple matter of removing "most" of the cards and reinstalling them in the larger KX-TDE600 system.

In addition to the 6 physical card slots on the KX-TDE100 and the 11 physical card slots on the KX-TDE200, each system has something called a Virtual Shelf.  Each Virtual Shelf has 8 more slots for Virtual cards.  The Virtual Shelf is divided into two Bays - A C.O. (trunk) Bay for up to 4 trunk-related cards and an Extension (station) Bay for up to 4 station-related cards.  This feature is HUGE and should not be overlooked.  With Virtual cards, it’s as easy as placing a call to  Panasonic.KX-TD.com at (407) 926-2303 and order the card by phone.  The card is then installed remotely and people can begin using the circuits immediately.  Unlike physical cards, there is no need to wait for delivery or installation.  There are currently 2 trunk-related Virtual cards and 2 station-related Virtual cards.  The 2 trunk-related Virtual cards are the V-IPGW16 (a 16-circuit network trunk gateway card used to communicate with other PBX systems that support H.323 protocol) and the V-SIPGW16 (a 16-circuit network trunk gateway card used to communicate with SIP Trunk service Providers such as Broadvox).  The 2 station-related Virtual cards are the V-IPEXT32 (a 32-circuit network extension card used to communicate with Panasonic’s high-end KX-NT series Proprietary VoIP phones) and the V-SIPEXT32 (a 32-circuit network extension card used to communicate with SIP extension devices including VoIP Phones, SIP Softphones, SIP Paging, SIP Gate Phones).

KX-TDE100 and KX-TDE200 systems are installed in large Estates, medium and large size businesses, in hotels, and on luxury motor yachts.  Both of these systems can support conventional analog lines such as POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service), T1 Service and ISDN-Primary Rate Interface.  Recently, SIP Trunking was added as an available option and the systems can mix and match technologies.  A wide variety of station devices may be used with these two systems including Digital Multiline Speakerphones, Network (IP) Multiline Speakerphones, 4-Wire Panasonic Proprietary Multiline Speakerphones, 2-Wire Generic Single Line Analog Devices (phone, faxes, credit card readers, gates, modems, etc.), Generic SIP extension, Generic SIP Devices such as SIP Paging, Conventional Integrated 1-on-1 wireless phones (one transceiver for 1 wireless handset), Personal Cellular Integrated wireless phones, Panasonic Door Phones, Panasonic Softphones and Generic SIP Softphones.  That pretty much says it all.

So to summarize, the KX-TDE100/200 is an excellent choice for any medium to large size business, any medium to large size estate or any medium to large size motor yacht.  Both systems offer upgrade paths to the very large, KX-TDE600 product.  This is also a perfect choice if there are plans to implement IP features such as VoIP Gateway Services, VoIP Extensions or SIP Trunking.
